Camp Bow Wow grows quickly through its focus on pet care, safety and franchise support.

When Camp Bow Wow wants to celebrate happy, safe and healthy pet parenting, it knows how to do it right. With the company’s recent #GiveAFetch weekend in September, Camp Bow Wow demonstrated that dogs need more than food, water and shelter – they need love, exercise, belly rubs, special treats and socialization. So it invited dogs, dog owners and dog lovers to events in Dallas, Las Vegas, Kansas City, Mo., and Pittsburgh to enjoy dog-friendly activities, local vendors, food trucks and adoptable dogs.

Additionally, as part of the #GiveAFetch event, Camp Bow Wow brought a seven-foot-tall tennis ball dispenser to each of the parks, which held more than 2,000 balls. With $5 going to a shelter for every ball dispensed, Camp Bow Wow ended up donating $10,000 to shelters and rescues in each city, totaling $40,000 in donations. For people across the country, the company offered a social media contest through Oct. 31, where pet parents could share something special they do for their dogs. The winning submission received a free year of Camp.

“We had a great response with thousands of attendees and dozens of dogs adopted at each event,” Senior Marketing Manager Christy Barnes says. “Through the social contest, we enjoyed seeing how pet parents go above and beyond for their pups.” CampBowWow fact box

Camp Bow Wow understands the value dogs play in people’s lives, which has made it the largest pet care franchise in North America, and it is growing quickly. The #GiveAFetch event is one way the company demonstrates its commitment to responsible pet ownership, but it also shows this every day with its more than 160 franchise locations and the services they offer.

“When we started in 2000, there weren’t a lot of options like ours,” Barnes explains. “With our all-day play concept, we paved the way and set the standard for the industry. All of our Camp Counselors are trained in pet first aid and CPR, and they know how to make sure all of the dogs are having a safe, fun time. Our business is scalable because of the level of training and support we offer to franchisees. We also have a great team that is focused on innovation and technology to ensure we stay on the leading edge of convenience and accessibility for pet parents and dogs.”

Quality Assurance

Each Camp Bow Wow is a state-of-the-art day care and boarding facility, so dogs love going there and pet parents are comfortable leaving their dogs there, but franchise owners also benefit because they can transform their love for dogs into a career. Dogs who visit Camp Bow Wow receive regular exercise; are free of boredom and separation anxiety; have improved socialization with dogs and people; and have an enhanced quality of life.

Pet parents remain comfortable with leaving their four-pawed family member at Camp Bow Wow because the company keeps safety as its top priority. Parents know their pet is well-cared for because all of the workers – Certified Camp Counselors – are extensively trained in dog behavior, pet first aid and CPR; each dog is required to pass a socialization interview, be spayed or neutered, and be current on vaccinations; live webcams allow parents to check in via a computer or mobile device; and each facility is monitored 24/7.

“Safety is of the utmost importance for our customers, and it’s one of the main factors that attracts them to us,” Barnes says. “They love their dogs and want to leave them in the best hands possible, and we provide that assurance.”

For franchisees, the core business is pet boarding and day care, which allow the locations to generate revenues morning and night. But additional services such as pet grooming, training and in-home pet care allow franchise owners to diversify their revenue streams.

“We offer support in training, marketing, technology and operations,” Barnes says. “Franchise owners know there is always someone who can guide them or provide them with the resources to best manage their business.”

Franchise owners enjoy their work and stay successful because the business is structured around ensuring the dogs have fun and remain safe. On the corporate side, Camp Bow Wow is continuously finding ways to better support its franchises. The company recently rolled out an updated version of its customer management software, for example, making it easier for franchises to manage their day-to-day business. This proprietary software was built in-house, and allows for faster check-in and check-out for customers, but also provides enhanced information that franchise owners can use to make better business decisions.

With the help of these tools, ongoing corporate support and the fun of seeing dogs have fun day in and day out, Camp Bow Wow is growing quickly and remains the industry leader in doggy day care and boarding. Barnes notes the company will open more than 20 new Camps this year, and it hopes to have 300 units across the country in the next few years.

“We are growing quickly,” she says. “Our focus is on smart growth so we can continue providing a high level of support to both new and existing franchise owners.”
